Teacher’s Spotlight DEMARCUS LEE
The teacher’s spotlight in this month’s issue is Mrs. Terri Brasher. Mrs. Brasher specializes in teaching The Anatomy and Physiology of the body to students from grades 10-12. She has been committed to teaching this class for 5 years and has helped many students pass the science portion of the AHSGE, including me.
This year Mrs. Brasher is teaching a class, new to Moody High School called Zoology, which means the study of animals. Both classes that Mrs. Brasher teaches are science electives and are not required.
For those who haven’t taken Mrs. Brasher’s class, you will learn how to dissect and identify internal and external parts of different creatures that will be dissected in the science lab.
We decided to interview Mrs. Brasher to find out a little bit more on how she became the person who she is today:
Q. What brings you joy when teaching these classes? A. Having students that really want to learn.
Q. What college did you graduate from? A. I graduated with a Master’s Degree in Biology from Sanford University and a Master’s Degree in education from UAB.
Q. What made you want to be a science teacher? A. Actually, I did research at Sanford and UAB for about three years, first. Then the department head at Sanford called and asked me to teach Anatomy labs there.
Q. Could you imagine yourself doing anything else besides teaching? If so, what would it be? A. Not really. One dream that I had a long time ago was to be a professional musician.
Q. What is your favorite thing to do in your spare time? A. I like to read and do a lot of crossword or sudoku puzzles; and travel to lots of different national parks throughout the country.
Q. Have you ever visited a foreign country? A. Yes, I’ve been to Canada and Mexico.
Q. If you have any advice to give to someone who has lost both their family and friends, what would you say? A. Even though we don’t understand the reasons for these losses, God knows the future and He has His reasons for allowing these things to happen. |
